Why Should We Prefer Organic Foods?
The answer to the question of why we should prefer organic foods should be addressed separately for both human and environmental health.
Organic farming is an agricultural method where production is carried out using beneficial methods for humans, soil, and the world.
Every stage of this production method is kept under control, and more importantly, no chemical substances are used during the production process. In an era where human health is threatened by the unconscious use of agricultural pesticides, the importance of organic nutrition is undeniable.
One of the most prominent features of conventional agriculture is the harvesting of the same type of product for years. The depleted minerals in the soil are returned to the soil using synthetic fertilizers.
The importance and benefits of organic nutrition;
The increasing amounts of fertilizers used every year negatively affect the microflora of the soil, eliminating beneficial insects and worms. Instead of natural and laborious methods to eliminate pests that harm crops, pesticides are used, but pests eventually develop resistance mechanisms to these chemicals. In this cycle, the dosages and frequency of pesticide application are increased, or stronger chemicals are introduced. The intensive use of pesticides also leads to the destruction of beneficial organisms that are enemies of pests, and thousands of insect species, worms, and other living creatures, especially bees, which ensure the continuity of the ecological balance, are eliminated.
On the other hand, chemical fertilizers used in conventional agriculture disrupt the soil structure and make it susceptible to wind and water erosion.
Pesticides and all kinds of chemicals used in production contaminate groundwater and surface water, and therefore carry the risk of mixing with our drinking water.
Organic foods should be preferred to protect future generations and ensure sustainability. Avoiding pesticides, which are the number one cause of various cancers that have exploded in recent times, is important for the future health of generations.
In summary, the importance of organic nutrition should be considered not only for its direct impact on our health but also for its contribution to our society, our soil, and the future of our world.
What is Organic Nutrition?
Organic nutrition refers to consuming foods that use only natural substances in both their cultivation and processing. This means that if we call a food organic, it should not contain any artificial chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, or similar additives.
Important points to know about organic food production and sales;
Organic foods are produced using farming practices that only use natural substances. This means avoiding all artificial chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Many people choose to buy organic food to avoid artificial chemicals.
However, when it comes to organic food sales, there are a few points to consider;
-Not every product labeled "organic" may actually be organic. Especially for unpackaged foods, just because the labels say "organic" does not mean the product is organic. Even if a product is sold without packaging, if it is from organic farming, it must have a certificate. To be sure, you should ask to see the product's certificate when purchasing. Otherwise, while you might think you are buying an organic product, which can be slightly higher priced than conventional products due to the more costly processes involved, you cannot know if you are instead buying a product containing countless pesticides.
-To understand if packaged products are truly organic, you should be able to see the "Ministry of Agriculture organic farming logo" and the "Organic Product Certificate number" on the product packaging, which certifies that it belongs to one of the authorized inspection bodies recognized in our country.
Being conscious consumers about certified organic products will help both protect your health and the health of your loved ones, and also enable brands that meticulously carry out organic product processes to conduct their commercial activities more fairly.
